The start-up Nucao has been on a rollercoaster ride: launched in 2016 as an organic chocolate brand and growing rapidly, sales melted faster than chocolate bars in the midday sun during the 2022 recession.
At the Leipzig-based start-up, the crisis was followed by redundancies and a tough self-examination: what do consumers really expect from a sustainable brand? How do you build a vegan organic brand so that it also tastes good to normal REWE customers? In other words: How do you finally get organic chocolate out of its eco niche?
The results of the relaunch are impressive: with a streamlined portfolio, a new recipe and, above all, a fresh brand image, Nucao is really taking off. In this podcast episode, co-founder Christian Fenner tells us how his vegan organic brand was able to increase sales by 50 percent within a year, what sets Nucao apart from Jokolade and Tony's Chocolonely and how he wants to take sales away from chocolate giants Lindt, Milka, Ferrero and Ritter Sport in the long term. Welcome to an episode that you should let melt in your mouth!
